CAK will host a leadership forum from March 29 to April 1, 2023, in the Pride Inn Hotel, Mombasa, that is dedicated to advancing and realizing the National Transformation Plan through cooperatives.

6 March, 2023

The Cooperatives Forum for Board Members, which will be held at the Pride Hotel Paradise in Mombasa on March 29, will be the vehicle for driving and advancing the National Transformation Agenda.

Kenya's national transformation plan is a government project designed to enhance public welfare and foster economic development.

Food security and nutrition, financial inclusion, education, healthcare, infrastructure, production, and economic development are among the important topics on the agenda.

Cooperatives play a significant role in Kenya's national transformation strategy and engage all sectors of the economy to create a more wealthy and inclusive society, so the government was right to choose them as a means of achieving its transformation goals.

Cooperatives complement the government's initiatives to foster economic growth and development while also enhancing the financial security of their members.

Additionally, cooperatives support environmental sustainability and social inclusion, contributing to the development of a more prosperous and equitable society for all.

It is crucial to have a supportive policy environment that acknowledges the distinctive qualities of the cooperative model and promotes its expansion in order to use cooperatives to advance a national transformation agenda.

This involves actions like passing the Cooperative Bill into law, creating regulations, and talking about tax breaks, financing options, and legal recognition.

Moreover, progressive leadership is essential for fostering long-lasting change in cooperatives.

To ensure the cooperatives' long-term success and stability, ethical and integrity-based leadership and members' participation in decision-making work to build a culture of trust, transparency, and accountability.

Encouraging and implementing transparency in decision-making and financial reporting assures member accountability and confidence, as well as the country's cooperative movement's ongoing success and expansion.

The engagement between cooperatives and governments is valuable as rules and compliance difficulties develop. This will assist cooperatives to overcome their challenges and contribute to a more thriving and sustainable cooperative sector in Kenya.

The active participation of cooperative members and the active engagement of governments to achieve common goals will, in the end, determine the effectiveness of cooperatives in driving a national transformation agenda.

In light of this, CAK has arranged a leadership event to address prospects for collaboration between government agencies and the cooperative sector, as well as how these agencies might support the development of the sector in a sustainable way.

The major goals of the forum are to debate important topics such as how county and national governments can accelerate and sustain cooperative transformation for economic prosperity.

Another goal is to use cooperatives and ethical, integrity-driven leadership through sustainable board governance best practices to capture and advance the national transformation agenda.

The legalization of the cooperative law and its ramifications, as well as strengthening collaborations between cooperatives, governments, and development partners in order to advance a national transformational agenda, are other goals that will be highlighted.

The forum is intended for key decision-makers in the policymaking process, such as the board of directors of cooperative societies, the chief executive officers, the county executive committee (CEC) members, the county chief officers of cooperatives, the county directors of cooperatives, and the county commissioners and officers.

CAK believes that leading the national transformation agenda through cooperatives gives us a great opportunity to have a good impact on both our communities and our country.

Members have been urged to reserve their spot by emailing early confirmation with the participant(s)' names and contact information.
